Stef Travers
Kamloops, BC, Canada
About
KamloopsFarrier, trainer, teacher, and ardent philosopher of the horse, as well as lifelong explorer the meaning of life, lover of solitude, remote corners, sage and pines, her art reflects not simply an intimate knowledge, admiration and love for her subjects, but has the ability to draw you into the individual soul of each one and reflects a light and mirror back onto ours. She has a passion and reverence for the Old Californio Style of horsemanship, also an Art Unto itself and revels in exploring the depths of communication, refinement, and commitment to respectful handling of stock and self-awareness. It’s in trying to capture elegantly in oil paint, that distant faraway look in an eye, or one that pierces straight through to your soul, the flash of light on silver adoring the hard working ranch horse, or that stillness and ease of an long-time partner...the gaze and undeniable power of the professional bucking or fighting bull...those moments challenge her to convey some of the profoundness and magic she sees everyday into art that stairs her soul. Stef has shown her work successfully at Kamloops Cowboy Festival, Kerrville TX Museum of Western Art, the Federation of Canadian Artists in Vancouver, Pure West Art Auction, and the Calgary Stampede, receiving Best in Show there this past year. Her piece "As the Day is Long" was selected as the cover for the 90th Anniversary edition of the icoinc Western Horsemen Magazinic She's created a great many commissions as well; commemorating with joy those horses and dogs that have brought their humans so much love and connection. Her art lives throughout Canada and coast to coast in the US as well as Portugal and Mexico. She currently calls the high sage hills outside Kamloops, BC home and shares space with her three Iberian horses, her Dane and Dogo, and various paintbrush friends, but is also known to disappear into the wild blue yonder following the crumb trails of her heart in the Palomino Palace.
